"Grey hair," a carefully balanced mixture of sterilized natural animal hair and man-made fiber, is layered over the burlap covering, forming the desired shape of the chair or sofa.
A second layer of burlap, hand-sewn into place, stabilizes the shape. Densely packed and sewn "rolls" of grey hair form the elegant scrolled edges characteristic of many styles.
