Artist: Nikki Schiro

Nikki Schiro is a native New York emerging artist. Her studies in art include and M.F.A. (2006) and B.F.A. (2002) from Hunter College, NY, as well as the Saturday Outreach Program (1997) at Cooper Union College for the Advancement of Fine Art, NY. Nikki is of Puerto Rican and Italian decent and has been deeply influenced and recognized by both cultures, thanks to the multicultural aspects of New York City. In 2009, her Portrait of Ella was selected to be in Fusions: Classics meet Latin American Art, in the Biggs Museum of American Art, DE. In 2003 she was granted a scholarship from N.O.I.A.W. (National Organization of Italian American Women). In 2008 she was selected to be an artist in residence at Roosevelt Hospital through the Creative Center, a non-profit that places professional artists into NYC hospitals to make art with patients battling cancer.

In addition to relentlessly making artwork, Nikki is a member of two contemporary professional artist collectives, the Latin group Propuesta 5 and tART, an all-women collective. She is a member of LiCa and artHarlem, two non-profits supporting the promotion and community of artists in zones of New York City. She is a contributing writer for www.artcomments.com. She is a member of Team Fox, a charity team for Parkinson's disease Research and the New York Road Runners; she has run several New York marathons to raise money and awareness for her cause.
